I like to hunt even though it has been few years since I have been able to. When I do hunt I'm doing it to put protein on the table and nothing is wasted.
My family and friends know my love of trout fishing and about 95% of the time I practice catch and release. On occasion I will keep a couple fish but never more than I can eat in one meal.
Trophy hunters and fisherman make me sick. For instance that Great Hammerhead Shark had a potential life span of 20 to 30 years. It could have been easily released to live on and maybe be caught another day there was no need to kill it.
What pisses me off the most about Cecil is that he was part of a study and was wearing a tracking collar (that apparently the guides attempted to destroy from reports I have read and heard). The tracking collars are very visible and if Palmer was any kind of hunter he would have seen it and held his shot. But he just had to have that black mane for his wall.
The other thing is that when he killed Cecil he didn't just kill Cecil he also signed a death warrant for Cecil's 9 known cubs. Other male lions in an effort to assure their dominance and secure their blood line will kill those cubs.
Dr. Palmer I sure hope you're proud of your kill because in my humble opinion you are nothing more than a canned hunt "sportsmen" and probably couldn't hunt your way out of a wet paper bag on your own.
0 Lord, I am a hunter
And life I seek to take
But let me not attempt the shot
Beyond my skill to make
For Lord they are your creatures
Given for our use
But each one falls within your sight
They're not for our abuse
And when I loose my arrow
Please guide it swift and true
Or let it miss completely, Lord
That pain be not undue
A clean kill or no kill, Lord
Such is my heart's desire
Give me the skill to make it so
Or let me hold my fire
And when my time upon this earth
The days they are fulfilled
Grant that I may die at least
As clean as those I killed
